Which artists are on FaveIQ?

Every artist with a page on FaveIQ has their own games and their own Fan IQ. They include Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Tems, Rema, Asake, Tyla and Ayra Starr. See them all on the Artists page.

What do the Culture packs cover?

Culture packs go beyond one artist, into the music around them: Fela and Afrobeat, highlife, jùjú, fuji and apala, the music of Ghana, Nigerian pop before Afrobeats, awards, real names, labels and producers, samples and what song titles mean.

How do scores work?

  • Fan IQ: one for each artist you play, from 0 to 100, built from five skills: Charts, Eras, Collabs, Numbers and Live. A radar shows where you're strongest.
  • Culture IQ: from the Culture games, built from four skills: Roots, Scenes, Industry and Awards.
  • Afrobeats IQ: once you've answered at least 10 rated questions on each of three artists, it's the average of your Fan IQs, weighted by how many questions you've answered on each artist.
  • Scores rise and fall with what you know. Each comes with a level, lowest first: Fresh Ears, Tuned In, Real Fan, Day One, Sabi and Agba. They're working names we're testing with fans.

Where do the questions come from?

Every question is built from facts we have checked, and every fact has a source you can open.

  • A fact counts as checked when one primary source shows it, such as an official chart, a certification register or an awards ceremony's own site, or when two secondary sources from different publishers agree.
  • Different publishers means a different name, a different site and a different family of sites: a Wikipedia page and its Wikidata item count as one publisher.
  • Some facts always need two independent sources: an artist's genre, facts about a genre, a birth name, a band's line-up, a label signing and what a title means.
  • Culture questions need two independent sources for every fact they use, except awards, where a primary source on the ceremony's own website is enough.
  • A source that gives a different answer is kept on record but never counts, and Culture questions never use a fact the sources disagree on.
  • A source has to be a page a reader can open and check: a chart site's internal data feed doesn't count. Nor does TimesLIVE, which turns away the tools we use to check facts.

The sources cited most include Apple Music, Wikipedia, TurnTable's charts and certifications, the Official Charts Company, The Headies, MusicBrainz and the Recording Academy, and certification bodies such as the RIAA, the BPI and Music Canada.

How is each question checked?

  • An editor checks every question as a player will see it before it goes live.
  • After you answer, you see the fact behind the question and its source.
  • Spot a mistake? Tap “Report a problem” after you answer. When three players with accounts report a question, it leaves play until an editor has checked it again.
